About The Special Delivery Co:

The Special Delivery Co was founded by Charlotte LacSeul in 1987. Charlotte had a vision of helping women discover and experience the joy of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.  For 34 years, Charlotte helped mothers deliver their babies in their homes. In 2021, Charlotte opened The Special Delivery Birth Center in Arlington, Washington to be a space where women would be acknowledged, heard, and cared for through the childbearing years.

Hi, I’m Charlotte

Founder of The Special Delivery Co in 1987.

Charlotte LacSeul

“I knew I wanted to be a midwife at the birth of my second child. I had birthed my first son [naturally] in the hospital and had about as good experience as you can have there; but then a friend told me that she had delivered her fourth baby at home. At first I wondered how she had done that—but then I found a midwife. When my second son, Evan, was born at home, the difference was life-changing. Just having the emotional space to love and be intimate in my own atmosphere, and being cared for by my midwife whom I knew instead of nurses I had never seen before, released a freedom of intimacy that can't be created in the hospital setting.”

“When I looked at the scientific facts, I found that out-of-hospital maternity care is actually safer than hospital birth for low-risk women who are attended by a knowledgeable care provider. I wanted to spread the news! Burning with a passion to help women, I became a childbirth educator and began labor coaching. The more I helped pregnant and birthing women, the more I knew I wanted to be a midwife. I prayed about it and all the doors miraculously flew open. At 23, I graduated from Seattle Midwifery School and began my life as a midwife. I love helping women and families have their babies.”

“I have eleven children: nine, I birthed, and two I got for free. I have the most amazing husband who is so supportive.  My children are such a blessing and delight. Gene, Evan, Wesley, Arthur, Abraham, Jerry, Leah, Natalie (in Heaven,) Sophia, Crosby, and Jedidiah, have brought a wealth of experience in my own births and life.  “

“I have been invited into such a precious time of life for so many people—a moment as intimate as your wedding night. To see families light up when their precious baby comes into the world never gets old. To see a mother's face beaming as she exclaims "I did it!" is sheer delight. I desire to help every family have a birth experience the way they want it.”

Licensed Midwife’s are privileged to deliver at home and at The Special Delivery BirthCenter.

Lindsey Frank

My name is Lindsey Frank. I am a Certified Nurse Midwife and I am so excited to partner with you in achieving your best health! I am so happy to be offering pregnancy care both in the office and through telehealth (phone/zoom). I also really enjoy providing ultrasounds and nonstress tests when our clients need them. I love providing breastfeeding support and watching families grow and thrive! I started birthwork back in 2005, when I became an apprentice to a homebirth midwife. This experience, supporting natural birth, became my foundation. As a doula, nurse, and nurse-midwife, I have guided pregnant women from their teens to their 40’s, low risk and high risk, including women from many different cultures and backgrounds. I graduated, with my Masters in Midwifery, in 2011, from Marquette University. I caught babies for 7 years before stepping away to start my own family. Both of my children were caught by midwives at a birthcenter! Someday soon, I will be catching babies here at Special Delivery or at home. I cannot wait to get to know you!

Kaja Powers

Birth has been a central part of my life from my earliest memories, growing up as the daughter of a midwife. My journey into midwifery began in nursing school at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, driven by a desire to bridge the gap between home and hospital births. After the birth of my daughter at home in 2010, my calling deepened, leading me to train with midwives on Oahu and California. I completed my midwifery education at Puget Sound Birth Center in Washington State, eventually returning to Hawaii to make out-of-hospital birth more accessible. Over the years, I've had the privilege of serving over 600 families through my private practice, Born to Birth Midwifery, and collaborations with other dedicated birth workers.

In 2018, I returned to Puget Sound Birth Center, balancing my passion for midwifery with my roles as a mother and wife. After five fulfilling years, I transitioned to working as a birth and postpartum doula with Expecting Joy, while also pursuing interests in financial education and photography. Alongside my mother, I co-created a documentary that celebrates the raw power of birthing women and the preciousness of new life. Now, I'm thrilled to join the team at The Special Delivery Birth Center, continuing my commitment to supporting families through this transformative time.

Desiree LeFave

Hello, my name is Desiree. Over the years, I’ve played an integral role in the delivery of about 1000 babies, witnessing parents meeting their babies. I became a midwife in 2001, driven by a deep passion for health, nutrition, and personal connection in pregnancy. My journey has led me to spend many years practicing in Oregon, where I’ve refined my craft and deepened this passion.

In 2010, I co-founded MamaBaby Haiti with a few of my best friends and fellow midwives. MamaBaby Haiti is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free prenatal, birth, postpartum, and newborn midwifery care to some of the most vulnerable women in the Western Hemisphere.

I believe that proper nutrition, a healthy lifestyle, combined with a family's emotional connection during pregnancy, can significantly improve birth outcomes and the overall experience of pregnancy. My dedication to this work continues to drive me, and I still attend births and share my passion for birth at The Special Delivery. Beyond my professional life, I cherish moments with my husband and grown children. I also enjoy engaging in Bible study, exploring natural health, and savoring the joys of travel. In my moments of relaxation, I find joy in the companionship of my basset hound, rounding out a life dedicated to the well-being and celebration of new beginnings.
