Post Partum Care
After your birth, we want to support the whole family through the adjustment of welcoming their new baby. Your midwives provide postpartum care for the mother up to 8 weeks, where we will connect with you for a visit within 48 hours of your birth, followed by in-office visits at 1-2 weeks and 6-8 weeks postpartum.
Maternal postpartum visits will include:
- Assessment of physical recovery for mother and baby
- Breastfeeding encouragement, advice and support
- Monitoring of emotional well-being
- Processing and discussing your birth experience with you
- Family planning counseling and diaphragm fittings, if desired
- Routine laboratory and pap tests as needed
Your midwives provide newborn care up to 2 weeks following the birth. First, we will check in for a visit within 48 hours of the birth, followed by an in-office visit at 1-2 weeks. We recommend continued care be followed by a pediatrician. Our recommended pediatricians can be found here.
Newborn visits will include:
- Breastfeeding support and proper latch technique
- Continued monitoring of vitals, weight loss/gain, and jaundice
- Assessment of tongue and lip ties and referrals as needed
